OPay is a prominent fintech platform in Nigeria and it employs various strategies for its promotions, focusing on accessibility and user engagement. Unlike the deceptive tactics used in scams, OPay’s legitimate promotions are typically conducted through official channels. These include announcements within the OPay app itself, verified social media accounts, and their official website.
Verification:
The deceptive link is mimicking Facebook interface, where there is like, comment and share section. The official Opay logo was embedded in the website and testimonials from users wereadded thanking Opay to have credited them with #10,000. The website requested for user Opay account number then asked them to share on different whatsapp groups then asked other vital information.
The provided link, “https://cut-ly.com/Opay-10k-ramadan-giveaway,” uses a URL shortener (cut-ly). This is a common tactic used by scammers to obscure the true destination of the link, which is often a phishing site. The link was subjected to verification using the e.Veritas. e.Veritas flagged the link to be a phishing.
Also, Official OPay promotions would typically be announced through official channels, such as their official website, verified social media accounts.
