Fact-Check: Evidence Shows that the Claim a Teenager Built Flying Aircraft in Jos is False!

Ayofe Abdullah, a social media influencer, shared a collage of a teenager flying a mini-aircraft over her village in Jos, Plateau State, claiming that the teenager built the mini-aircraft.
“WOW! 17-Year-Old Girl Builds Mini-Aircraft in Jos, Flies It Over Her Village,” Abdullah wrote.
The post which has gained 320k views, 603 reposts, 110 quotes and over 4k likes got many users reacting. While some congratulated the teenager, others questioned the origin of the image, asserting that it is AI generated. The same post can also be found here, here, here and here.
Verdict
False. Evidence show that the image is likely AI generated
Verification
FactCheckAfrica ran the image through Google Lens and found that the image has also been reposted by other users.
Furthermore, there have been reports of a young Nigerians designing and building a helicopter here and here, but none of the reports specifically mentioned the Jos teenager in claimant’s post.
To ascertain whether the image is AI generated, we ran the image through Hive and Sightengine AI detection tools, which claimed that it was not likely to have been generated with artificial intelligence.

Conclusion
Based on our findings, it can be concluded that no media reports specifically mentioned the Jos teenager. Similarly, results from AI image detection tools on the image revealed that it is likely to be AI generated.
