A viral post has been circulating on social media, claiming that Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote is giving out ₦105,000 to Nigerians as part of a “Ramadan cash blessings” initiative. The group has major investments in cement, sugar, flour, and other industries, making him one of the richest individuals in the world, with an estimated net worth of $28.3 billion. Aside from business, Dangote is known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation. However, there is no record of him announcing a Ramadan giveaway of ₦105,000.

On Sunday, March 2, 2025, a Facebook user named Jerrimah shared a post claiming that Aliko Dangote had donated ₦105,000 to Nigerians in celebration of Ramadan. The post suggested that he had personally received the money and urged others to register through a provided link.

Upon verification, the post had gathered 18 likes and four comments. Some users shared their bank details, while others asked for guidance on how to claim the money. However, one commenter debunked the claim, calling it false.

Examining the Link

Investigating the provided link, the webpage displayed a photo of Aliko Dangote and Mufti Menk, alongside logos resembling Punch and Vanguard newspapers, likely to create a sense of legitimacy. Users were asked to answer four questions, including details about their NIN, gender, and age, before proceeding. The website then directed users to select two boxes before instructing them to share the link with 10 to 15 people in their contact list. Despite following the process, no money was received.

Verification Findings

To verify the claim, fact-checking tools such as Dubawa’s chatbot and e.Veritas were used. Dubawa confirmed that Aliko Dangote has not announced any such donation. No official statement from Dangote Group or any credible media outlet supports this claim.

e.Veritas flagged the link with a warning, stating that websites receiving a warning may not be inherently harmful but exhibit characteristics or content that could pose risks. The platform advised users to approach the site with caution as it might lead to unexpected or undesirable outcomes.

Conclusion:

The claim that Aliko Dangote is giving out ₦105,000 as Ramadan cash blessings is false. It is a fabricated story, likely intended to scam people by collecting their personal information. Nigerians are advised to be cautious and avoid clicking on suspicious links or sharing personal details on unverified websites.
