Transparency and Editorial Independence in Funding
FactCheckAfrica is a project of the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), and we are committed to full transparency regarding our funding sources while maintaining complete editorial independence in our fact-checking activities. We adhere to the principles of unbiased reporting, ensuring that none of our financial supporters influence our editorial judgments or decisions.
Funding Sources
FactCheckAfrica does not accept funding from any political parties, government bodies, politicians, or partisan organizations in any of the countries we cover. This commitment to independence ensures that our fact-checking processes and reports remain free from political or partisan influence.
Our major supporters include: US Global Engagement Center, Karibu Foundation. Additionally, FactCheckAfrica has received a grant from the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) via the Fact-Checking Development Grant, funded by YouTube (through the Google News Initiative). This grant supports our project activities in promoting a culture of truth across Nigeria and West Africa.
Commitment to Editorial Independence
We are fully transparent about our funding sources, which are clearly disclosed here. Importantly, we guarantee that no funder has any influence over our editorial content, fact-checking methodologies, or organizational decisions. Our editorial team operates independently from all financial contributors, ensuring that our fact-checking remains impartial and focused solely on accuracy and integrity.
By maintaining this separation between funding and editorial control, FactCheckAfrica upholds its mission to provide unbiased and trustworthy information to the public. We are committed to fostering an informed society by delivering fact-based, independent journalism, free from external influence or pressure.
