On Wednesday afternoon, news of an explosion in the Maitama area of Abuja began circulating on social media on Wednesday afternoon.

Pictures were tweeted on X, the microblogging social media platform, reporting the said explosion in Abuja.

Verification

FCA analysed this picture using reverse image search engines and found that it was completely unrelated to a recent explosion in Abuja.

This image was taken by the Associated Press after an improvised explosive device (IED) killed at least 21 people at Banex Plaza shopping center in Wuse on June 25, 2014 and was published from an NBC news report about a bomb explosion in the Wuse area of Abuja.
