MyAIFactchecker at JournalismAI Connect Project Showcase

On April 24, 2025, FactCheckAfrica’s groundbreaking tool, MyAIFactchecker, was featured in the JournalismAI Connect Project Showcase, an initiative that brings together innovative minds in journalism and technology from around the globe. The event was designed to explore how artificial intelligence is being harnessed to enhance reporting, storytelling, and information integrity in today’s media landscape.

Held virtually and anchored by the London School of Economics’ JournalismAI project, the session spotlighted four compelling AI-driven tools making waves in the journalism space. Each team had five minutes to present their solutions, followed by a lively Q&A that fostered learning and collaboration.

Representing FactCheckAfrica, Prudence Okeoghene Emudianughe and Mustapha Lawal introduced MyAIFactchecker—a real-time smart verification tool that helps users detect misinformation and validate content with credible evidence. Their presentation highlighted the tool’s growing relevance across African communities and its potential for scale as an essential resource for journalists and media organizations.

Other featured projects included:

– plain X by Deutsche Welle (Germany), a versatile 4-in-1 platform for transcription, translation, subtitling, and synthetic voiceover.

– SoJo Insights by Nigeria Health Watch (Nigeria), a RAG-based tool that extracts actionable takeaways from solutions journalism stories.

– NARRADisinfo by Maldita.es (Spain), a narrative-mapping system that uses AI and Wikidata to trace online discourse and misinformation trends.

The showcase was an open and engaging space for AI journalism pioneers to share challenges, exchange feedback, and forge meaningful connections. From Europe to Africa, participants left the event inspired by the diversity of applications and the shared commitment to using AI to empower trustworthy journalism.

With projects like MyAIFactchecker gaining momentum, the JournalismAI Connect Project Showcase reaffirmed that AI, when responsibly applied, has the power to transform not just how stories are told—but how truth is defended in the digital age.
