MyAIFactchecker Features in Civic Tech Innovation Hangout
On October 14, 2024, FactCheckAfrica’s innovative tool, MyAIFactchecker, was showcased at the Civic Tech Innovation Network’s CTIF Exhibition Hangout. The event, themed Democracy, Governance & Accountability, was part of this year’s #UnderTheHood virtual exhibition, which focused on unveiling Africa’s ingenuity and creative spirit in building sustainable civic tech solutions.
During the session, MyAIFactchecker was presented by FactCheckAfrica’s Chief Operations Officer, Prudence Emudianughe. The demonstration highlighted how the tool is revolutionizing fact-checking in African communities, helping journalists and citizens combat misinformation more effectively.
The hangout, designed as a light-hearted and collaborative platform, also featured presentations from other civic tech innovators across Africa. Key participants included Lincoln Njongu (Innovation for Policy Foundation), Titus Kipkirui (iVoting), and Toko Abdoul (Africitizen). These innovators shared their tools, aimed at impacting governance, democracy, and accountability within the African continent.
This interactive session provided an opportunity for innovators and practitioners to exchange insights, share resources, and address challenges in the civic tech space. Participants explored how their tools contribute to governance reforms and foster transparency across Africa, sparking meaningful discussions that inspire the next wave of civic tech innovation.
The exhibition hangout was a key extension of the #UnderTheHood online showcase, designed to highlight the impact of civic technology on the continent while bringing together like-minded innovators and civil society stakeholders.
