IN PICTURES: Again, FactCheckAfrica Takes Misinformation Campaign to Osun University, Trains Over 250 Students

FactCheckAfrica has held a training on misinformation and digital rights for students and lecturers at Fountain University, Oshogbo, Osun State.

The program, held on Thursday, at the institution’s Eti-Osa lecture theater, brought together a number of experts on factchecking, artificial intelligence and digital security.

 The one-day event marked a significant milestone in our empowerment programs for the next generation of journalists, fact-checkers and researchers  to effectively combat the menace of information pollution in Nigeria through ethical reporting and deployment of AI tools.

Our in-house facilitators, Afeez Rabiu, Oluwafemi Oluwaseye, Mohammed Taoheed, Mustapha Lawal and Habeeb Adisa through different sessions provided participants with insights into the fundamentals of fact-checking and strategies to verifying information from all sources.

Additionally, a live demonstration of the FactCheckAfrica Al tool, myaifactchecker.org, by Lukman Adeoti was an important highlight  at the event. Participants marveled at the power of technology to unravel the truth behind viral messages and debunk fake news with a few clicks of a button, in their preferred language.

The panel session, moderated by Olasupo Abideen, the Global Director of BBYDI, emphasized the importance of developing tools to fight disinformation, using Al positively, and upholding journalistic integrity.

Panelists include Wasiu Ajadosu, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State; Bisola Ariwodola, the Chairperson of National Association of Women Journalists Osun; Bola Bamgbola, State Correspondent for Punch Newspaper, and Evelyn Ohiolei, Rave FM.
