A circulating message on whatsapp has claimed that “INEC Announces New Date for Nationwide Online Voter Card Registration” with a link attached to the message for registration.
Verdict:
False. Online voter card registration ended in July, and the link attached is a fake one.
Full Text:
A forwarded message on whatsapp has claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced a new date for the registration of online voter cards. The message further alleged that the new registration will run through September 28 to October 27, 2026.

Verification:
FactCheckAfrica examined the link attached to the claim and discovered it was different from the official INEC website. Also, it was noticed that the alleged link for registration had “blogspot” in it, this therefore raised more skepticisms on the purported message.
FactCheckAfrica visited the verified X page of INEC for confirmation and discovered INEC had publicly debunked the fake link in circulation through a post.

According to the post on INEC’s verified page, the online voter registration exercise closed on “26th July 2026”.
Conclusion:
The claim that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced a new date for the registration of online voter cards is False.
