DEBUNKED: Claim that Osun State Government ‘Deposed’ Oba Joseph Oloyede is False!

The Ademola Adeleke-led Osun State Government has deposed the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, Oba Joseph Oloyede.

Verdict:

The claim is false. There is no evidence confirming the deposition of Oba Joseph Oloyede from the throne.

On Monday, April 26, 2026, a viral claim alleging that the Osun State Government had deposed Oba Joseph Oloyede went viral on various social media platforms.

Recall that Oba Oloyede was reportedly convicted of leading a conspiracy to exploit COVID-19 emergency loan programmes designed to assist struggling small businesses.

According to the viral claim, Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Osun State, had claimed that the decision followed due consultation, legal review, and approval by the State Executive Council.

However, the Osun State Government has distanced itself from the controversial report.

In an official press release signed by Olufemi Ogundun, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs,  Osun State, the government clarified that the report did not originate from it,  PUNCH Newspaper reports.

“The attention of the Osun State Government has been drawn to a fake press release in circulation on the purported deposition of the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu.

“The press release did not emanate from the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment or the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and members of the general public and particularly indigenes of Ipetumodu, are advised to disregard the fake viral story,” Olufemi Ogundun wrote.

“The State Government has had useful and meaningful consultation and dialogue with stakeholders of Ipetumodu, and steps are being taken in line with the rule of law, which is the cornerstone of the present administration in the State,” he added.

Verification

Findings revealed that the claim alleging that the Osun State Government has  deposed Oba Joseph Oloyede is false.

An official statement signed by Olufemi Ogundun, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Osun State, debunked the claim, describing it as inaccurate.

Conclusion

The claim that Oba Joseph Oloyede  was  deposed by the Osun State Government is false. As stated in the official release, the monarch has not been removed from the throne.
