In today’s world of information overload, discerning fact from fiction has become an important task for every digital media outlet and individuals at large. This is why FactcheckAfrica has designed a cutting-edge platform to ensure the accuracy of information and help better the process of fact-checking.
By leveraging Meta’s advanced large language model, Llama 2, MyAIFactChecker is transforming the fact-checking landscape. This innovative approach aligns with the Meta Llama Impact Innovation Awards, a programme aimed at supporting organizations that use Llama 2 or Llama 3 to tackle pressing regional challenges.
The internet has democratized information dissemination, but it has also made it easier for misinformation to spread. Especially in Africa where there has been a persistent spike in the rate of information pollution.
This can lead to confusion and, in some cases, significant harm. Fact-checking has thus become a critical task, requiring tools that can efficiently sift through massive amounts of data and interpret complex contexts.
MyAIFactChecker is bridging the gap in that space by bringing fact checking to the ordinary person with little or no media literacy with its user-friendly interface and simple usage process, using Llama 3’s advanced capabilities.
How MyAIFactChecker Works
MyAIFactChecker employs a multi-faceted approach to fact-checking, integrating Llama 3 with an Advanced Search API. This powerful combination allows the platform to sift through vast information sources and databases efficiently, surfacing relevant data for fact-checking.
Llama 3’s strength lies in its ability to understand context. When a user submits a claim, Llama 3 analyzes the surrounding text to grasp nuances and intent.
This contextual understanding is crucial for accurate fact-checking, as the truthfulness of a claim often depends on its context. For instance, verifying a claim about a new scientific discovery requires understanding the broader implications and the context in which the discovery was made.
The Advanced Search API, used alongside Llama 3, enables MyAIFactChecker to quickly sift through enormous datasets. This capability is vital for timely fact-checking, especially when information spreads rapidly across social media and other platforms. By accessing a wide range of sources, MyAIFactChecker ensures that no relevant information is overlooked.
Beyond providing simple true or false labels, MyAIFactChecker uses Llama 3’s generative capabilities to formulate detailed responses. When a claim is submitted, the platform locates pertinent information and resources, analyzes these sources, and generates a comprehensive response.

Also, its efficient data processing capabilities are also a very big part of the innovation. Handling large datasets and extracting relevant information quickly is essential for effective fact-checking. Llama 3’s proficiency in this area ensures that MyAIFactChecker can operate efficiently.
Llama 3 can generate detailed explanations and summaries, enhancing the user’s understanding of complex issues. This ability sets MyAIFactChecker apart from other fact-checking platforms that may only provide binary answers.
In some of our lived experience in usage of these features of Llama 3 on our MyAifactchecker, an article about the postponement of Cameroon’s 2025 election to 2026, MyAIFactChecker was utilized to verify the parliamentary decision and its implications. The tool efficiently gathered information from various sources, confirming the postponement and highlighting the controversy surrounding it.
An analysis on the alleged spending of N814 billion by the Nigerian government on a new national anthem utilized MyAIFactChecker to dissect the claim. The tool pulled data from government reports and independent audits, ultimately debunking the exaggerated expenditure claim. Again, in response to a viral claim about Malema surrendering to South African President Ramaphosa, MyAIFactChecker analyzed social media posts and official statements. The tool’s context-aware capabilities provided a comprehensive debunking, clarifying the misinformation spread online.
Also, during a training session at Usmanu Danfodio University, MyAIFactChecker was showcased to students, teaching them how to combat misinformation. The platform’s ability to provide quick and accurate fact-checks impressed the participants, who learned to apply these skills in their journalistic endeavors.
