FACT-CHECK: Claim By Facebook User That Lameco Flyover Bridge in Osun Cost ₦15 Billion and Underwent Four Repairs In One Month Is False!

A Facebook user, Governor Ifedolapo Osun, claimed:
“They’ve repaired the Lameco Bridge 4 times within a month they commissioned it. A 15bn Bridge they Said.”
Verdict:
False. FactCheckAfrica found no report that the Lameco Flyover Bridge was repaired four times within one month of its commissioning. Available reports document one repair following the discovery of a structural defect less than a month after the bridge was inaugurated. Also, we found a report that states that the State Government claimed the repair was as a result of fault on the damage done by vandals. FactCheckAfrica also found that the project cost was approximately ₦8.52 billion, not ₦15 billion.

A Facebook user, Governor Ifedolapo Osun, shared a post claiming:
“They’ve have Repaired the Lameco Bridge 4 times within a month they commissioned it. A 15bn Bridge they Said.”
The claim has over 65 likes as at the time of filing this report. The post suggests that the newly commissioned Lameco Flyover Bridge in Osogbo had already undergone four separate repairs within one month of its inauguration and that the project cost ₦15 billion.
The claim surfaced after reports emerged that a section of the bridge developed a defect following heavy rainfall, prompting repair works by the Osun State Government.
The viral post attracted reactions from social media users, with many citing it as evidence of poor construction quality and waste of public funds.
FactCheckAfrica reviewed official government statements, credible media reports and publicly available records to determine whether the bridge had indeed been repaired four times within one month and whether its contract value was ₦15 billion.
Verification:
FactCheckAfrica found that Governor Ademola Adeleke commissioned the Lameco Flyover Bridge on July 1, 2026, describing it as one of several major infrastructure projects completed by his administration.
Less than one month later, on July 24, 2026, multiple reputable media organisations reported that a section of one lane of the flyover developed a depression after prolonged rainfall, leading authorities to cordon off the affected area and commence repairs.
FactCheckAfrica searched official statements from the Osun State Government as well as reports by The Nation, Punch and other credible media outlets for evidence supporting the claim that the bridge had been repaired four times within one month of commissioning. We found no evidence supporting that claim.
Instead, all available reports refer to one documented repair following the structural defect discovered on July 24. None reported three previous repair exercises before that incident.
FactCheckAfrica also examined the second part of the claim, which stated that the bridge cost ₦15 billion. Available official records and credible news reports consistently put the contract value at approximately ₦8.52 billion. Channels Television reported that the project was valued at ₦8.52 billion.
FactCheckAfrica found that Osun State officially reported the Lameco Flyover’s contract/project cost as ₦8.5216 billion in March 2024.

Conclusion:
The claim that the Lameco Flyover Bridge was repaired four times within one month of commissioning and cost ₦15 billion is false. Available evidence shows that the bridge developed a documented defect less than a month after it was inaugurated and underwent one publicly reported repair, not four. Furthermore, credible reports place the project’s contract value at approximately ₦8.52 billion, not ₦15 billion and our findings shows that Osun State officially reported the Lameco Flyover’s contract/project cost as ₦8.5216 billion in March 2024.
