A TitToker identified as Anuoluwa has recently taken to her social media account, claiming that the rate at which a 50kg bag of rice is purchased had been reduced to #32,000.

Anuoluwa, in a 1-minute video shared by an X-user identified as EasyOfLagos, could be heard urging Nigerians to commend the government for what she claimed to be a reduction in the price of a 50kg bag of rice.

The video, as of the time of filling this report, had gained traction on X, garnering over 3,500 views.

“Now that a bag of rice is #32,000 now, nobody is saying anything. Nobody is saying anything. But when the thing goes up now, you will come online and be saying all sorts of words,” Anuoluwa claimed.

“It is 32,000 now and there is no form of appreciation. At least, try to appreciate the changes so that they will know we are aware of everything and that when it goes up again, we will definitely come out and talk. It has dropped,” she added.

Anuoluwa, in the video,  further asked a person to confirm the veracity of the claim, who appeared to agree with her.

Verification:

To verify the claim, FactCheckAfrica searched for recent data on the prevailing prices of a 50kg bag of rice in Nigeria. Checks by FactCheckAfrica revealed that the price of a 50kg bag of rice varies depending on the brand, location, quality and point of purchase.

On September 1, 2026, The Times reported that a  50kg bag of rice sells at 55,000 while a similar quality of the foreign rice costs 65,000. Although the Nigerian Post in Abuja reported that the cost of Samfereta rice per bag is   between 32,000 and 35,000, there is no available evidence substantiating the claim that the general price has now dropped to # 32,000.

A further search by FactCheckAfrica confirmed that the range cost of  a 50kg rice,  as of April 2026, is between #40,000 and # 95,000.

Speaking to FactCheckAfrica,  Adebisi Hikmat, a woman who sells provisions items in Ibadan, confirmed that she purchased a 50kg bag of rice at the rate of 54,000 on Tuesday, September 8, 2025.

“It is 54,000 (a 50kg bag of rice). I bought it yesterday,” she told FactCheckAfrica.

Corroborating her claim, a woman selling cooked food at Felele, Ibadan, in an interview with FactCheckAfrica, confirmed that a bag sells at 54,000.

Meanwhile, in Akanu Ohafia, Abia State, the same quantity of rice is sold at 60,000.

Speaking to FactCheckAfrica, Precious Iba, a raw food item seller, noted ”a bag of rice here is 60,000.”

Conclusion:

The claim that the price of a bag of rice in Nigeria has been reduced to ₦32,000 is false and misleading. Available evidence does not support the claim that the general price of a 50kg bag of rice across Nigeria has dropped to ₦32,000.
