FACT CHECK: Claim that President Tinubu was Present at the Funeral Prayer of El-Rufai’s Mother is False!

Claim: 

Circulating posts on X, has claimed that the Nigerian president, Bola Tinubu was present at the funeral of the former governor of Kaduna state Nasir El-Rufai.

Verdict:

The claim that the Nigerian President was present at the funeral prayer of El-Rufai’s mother is False.

Full Text: 

Some X- users including, @Dancowest claimed that President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu  was present at the funeral of Mallam El-Rufai’s mother. The post was first posted by @Onosogbu , but was later deleted.

This claim follows the release of the former Kaduna state governor who had earlier been detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on the grounds of financial misconducts during his administration as state governor. However, after the news of the death of his mother Hajiya Umma, El-Rufai was released on “compassionate bail”.

Verification:

To verify the aforementioned claim, FactCheckAfrica checked through the websites of trusted media outlets in Nigeria for verification and found no published report about the presence of the Nigerian President.

Also, we conducted google reverse images and discovered through verified media that the video was that of President Tinubu at the National mosque in Abuja to observe prayers for his 74th birthday.

Conclusion: 

From our findings through verifiable media sources, FactCheckAfrica can confirm that President Bola Tinubu was not present at the Burial of El-Rufai’s mother as claimed.
