FACT-CHECK: Video of MC Oluomo Giving Money Not from Recent APC Convention, Old Clip Recycled

Claim: 

A viral video circulating on social media shows Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo) distributing money to people at the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention in Abuja. 

Verdict: 

Misleading! While the video shows MC Oluomo sharing money, the footage is not from the APC convention and predates the event.

A video showing MC Oluomo handing out cash to a group of people has circulated widely across social media platforms, with captions claiming that the incident occurred during the 2026 APC national convention in Abuja. 

The claim quickly gained traction online, with many users linking the footage to alleged political activities at the convention. Given the timing of the video’s circulation alongside a major political event, it raised concerns among users who interpreted it as evidence of inducement. 

However, the context attached to the video does not align with verified information about the convention. 

The APC national convention was held on March 27–28, 2026, in Abuja. A live report on the event and its proceedings was published by Punch Newspapers, confirming the timeline and activities of the convention. However, no credible media reports or verified event footage confirm that MC Oluomo distributed money at the venue during the convention. 

Verification: 

FactCheckAfrica reviewed multiple sources, including the viral clip, event timeline, and available video evidence using reverse video verification techniques.   A version of the video showing MC Oluomo sharing money can be found here.  Another earlier circulation of the same or similar clip can be found here.

These versions indicate that the video had already been in circulation prior to the APC convention, confirming it is not recent footage.  Live coverage and recordings from the APC convention, including, show no instance of MC Oluomo distributing money in the manner seen in the viral clip. 

There is also no credible report from established media organisations confirming that such an incident occurred at the convention. Further analysis shows that the video was reshared during the convention period with captions linking it to the event, thereby creating a misleading impression of recency. 

Conclusion: 

The claim that the video shows MC Oluomo distributing money at the 2026 APC convention is misleading. Although the footage is genuine, it predates the event and is not connected to the convention in Abuja. 

There is no verified evidence that the incident occurred at the APC national convention. The video was recycled and misrepresented with a misleading caption, highlighting how outdated content can be used to create false impressions, particularly during politically sensitive periods.
