FAKE! Unverified Link Claims TETFUND  is Giving Out 50,000 Grant To All Nigerian Students

A viral whatsapp message claims that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) is giving out fifty thousand naira worth of grants to all Nigerian students.

False. There is no supporting verified reports and announcements confirming such an initiative is ongoing.

A Forwarded Whatsapp message claims the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) is giving out fifty thousand naira worth of grants to all Nigerian students. 

The message alleged that the Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu “urge” the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa to open the “TETFUND STUDENT SUPPORT GRANT scheme”, as a result of “high level of complaints from Nigerian students”.

Verification: 

To verify this claim, FactCheckAfrica checked out the link attached and discovered the website used a free blogging platform “Blogspot” rather than an identifiable official government domain.

The use of a Blogspot domain for an allegedly official government website different from the official TETFUND Web page raises questions about the authenticity of the claim, and 

 warrants further verification

To further verify the authenticity of the link, FactCheckAfrica checked the official webpage of TETFUND for any related announcements confirming the claim and found none. No supporting evidence was found on the X page also. Additionally, no credible media outlets reported the alleged initiative. 

Conclusion: 

The claim that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) is giving out fifty thousand naira worth of grants to all Nigerian students is False. There’s no supporting evidence to the claim. The link rather is a hoax designed to gather data of ignorant citizens for selfish benefits.
