On WhatsApp, users have shared a claim that by October 1, 2026, the Nigerian geo-political zones will become a regional government. The same claim is found on X, as posted by a user named @adeosunm.

According to the post, the reforms would make the country’s six geopolitical zones constitutional organs of government, thereby creating a four-tier structure consisting of the federal, zonal, state and local governments.
It further claims that Nigeria will be restructured into 42 states, with seven states in each geopolitical zone, and that the Constitution will permanently prohibit the creation of any additional states.
It also stated the bill will introduce regional police, resource control, a new revenue-sharing formula, regional electricity management, and specialist healthcare, presenting the reforms as part of the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
A user on Facebook named Ogbomoso Focus Tv similarly made a post of the same claim.
