Fact-Check: Claim on Kwara Government Scholarship Awards and Bursary Payments Mix Old and New Figures
By: Abdulraheem Muhammed
Claim:
Dixcover hub claims the Kwara State Government Scholarship Board has opened applications for the 2024/2025 scholarship and bursary awards, offering ₦100,000 scholarships and ₦10,000 bursaries to final-year students.
Verdict: Partially True!
The scholarship and bursary awards are real, but the viral claims mix figures from two separate interventions. The ₦100,000 and ₦10,000 figures belong to the earlier scheme, while the ₦20,000 bursary and ₦200,000 Law School scholarship reflect the Governor’s new increments announced through his Special Assistant on Student Affairs.
Full Text:
A dixcover hub scholarship blogs post widely circulated on WhatsApp and announced that the Kwara State Government had opened applications for the 2024/2025 scholarship and bursary scheme. The program reportedly provides ₦100,000 scholarships and ₦10,000 bursaries to indigenes of Kwara State in tertiary institutions.
The detailed amount widely circulated by the Kwara state government officials, referenced a new bursary increment to ₦20,000 for undergraduates and ₦200,000 scholarships for Law School students.
The mixed details created confusion among applicants, as both figures were presented as if they applied to the same ongoing scheme.

Verification:
FactCheckAfrica reviewed official announcements, the Kwara State Scholarship Board portal, and media reports to clarify the claims.
The Kwara State Scholarship Board officially announced applications for the 2024/2025 bursary (₦20,000) and the 2023/2024 scholarship award (₦200,000). Applications are open from September 4 to September 18, 2025, and applicants must apply via the official portal.
Also on August 30, 2025, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Wasiu Onidugbe, announced via his verified Facebook page that Governor AbdulRazaq had approved a fresh ₦20,000 bursary package for final-year undergraduates.

The same announcement confirmed that Kwara indigenes in the Nigerian Law School will now receive ₦200,000 each. Media outlets such as Punch and Just Event Online also reported this increment.

The Scholarship Board requires applicants to log in using their valid Kwara State Residents Registration Agency (KWASRRA) SSID and NIN. A Google Form was also circulated by the Governor’s aide to collect SSIDs before portal access is granted.
Conclusion:
The Kwara State Government’s scholarship and bursary program is real. However, the viral claims are misleading because it merge two sets of figures: The last official scheme offers ₦100,000 scholarships and ₦10,000 bursaries through the Scholarship Board portal.
The new increments approved by the Governor separately raise the undergraduate bursary to ₦20,000 and Law School scholarship to ₦200,000.
