A WhatsApp post claimed that former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande was defeated at his polling unit during the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Full Text:
Following the conclusion of the Osun State governorship election, a message circulated on WhatsApp claiming that former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande was defeated at his polling unit.

The claim attracted attention because Akande is a prominent figure in Osun politics and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
FactCheckAfrica checked the result recorded at the former governor’s polling unit to determine whether the claim was accurate.
Verification:
The result on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) shows that Akande’s polling unit is Polling Unit 12, Ward 4, Atogbade, Ila-Orangun, Ila Local Government Area.
At the polling unit, the APC secured 181 votes, while the Accord Party received 121 votes. A total of 316 votes were recorded at the polling unit. The result therefore shows that the APC won the polling unit by a margin of 60 votes.
Reports by Premium Times and The Nation also stated that Akande won his polling unit for the APC.
Conclusion:
The claim that former Osun Governor Bisi Akande was defeated at his polling unit is false.
INEC’s result shows that the APC won the polling unit with 181 votes, defeating Accord, which polled 121 votes.
