A Nigerian radio broadcaster, Mogaji Kola Olootu, has claimed that the Tinubu administration has commenced the construction of the Ibadan-Abuja road and that the project would be completed before the end of the president’s first term.

Mogaji Olootu, as he is fondly called, made the claim during one of his radio programmes while assessing the performance of the Bola Tinubu-led administration.

“The construction of the road from Ibadan to Akure, leading to Abuja has begun,” Olootu claimed.

Verification:

Findings by FactCheckAfrica revealed that the claim is false. There is no credible evidence from the Presidency, the Federal Ministry of Works, or reputable media outlets confirming that the Federal Government has commenced construction of an Ibadan-Abuja road project.

While the Tinubu administration has approved and commenced the construction or rehabilitation of several major roads across the country, available records do not identify an Ibadan-Abuja road as a single approved construction project currently being executed by the administration.

Among the major road projects undertaken or approved by the Federal Government include the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road and projects along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, among others.

It is also important to note that the route around Ibadan to Akure and onward to Abuja described in the claim comprises different road corridors and should not be presented as a single Ibadan-Abuja road construction project without supporting evidence.
