Verification 1

FactCheckAfrica discovered that the video posted by Nigeria Stories occurred on a highway road and we couldn’t find traces of any police station around the vicinity where the incident occurred. This means that we cannot attribute it to the Nyanya Police Station which the blog claimed to have emanated from.

We made a keyword search on the internet about ‘Nyanya Police Division Burnt Down’ and retrieved a media report showing that the claim is false!.

We also detected that the Nigeria Police FCT Command has released a press statement debunking the claim that Nyanya Division burnt down.

“Contrary to the news making rounds about Nyanya division being burnt down by violent protesters, the FCT police command wishes to state that it wasn’t the police division that was burnt but rather the police container compartment at Nyanya checkpoint that was set ablaze and the attempt to vandalize the Tipper garage Police post,” part of the statement reads.

The police further listed four suspects who have been arrested, “Mathias Jude 29 ‘m’ of Nyanya Area D, Mohammad Ahmed 23, Abba Jibril 18 and Mohammad Haruna 18.”

Conclusion

The claim that Nyanya Divisional headquarter has been burnt down is False! FactCheckAfrica can confirm that only police container compartment was set ablaze and Nigeria Police has arrested the suspects.
