Full Text:

A social media graphic, which appears to have been circulated and forwarded severally on WhatsApp platforms, claimed that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had  postponed the payment of corps members’ June allowance and July allowance to August.

According to the broadcast  seen by FactCheckAfrica, the June allowance would be merged with the July allowance and both payments would be made in the first week of August, as result of what was  claimed to be ongoing reforms of the NYSC scheme.

The broadcast reads, “Due to the ongoing NYSC reforms, the corps members’ allowance for the month of June will be merged with the July allowance and both will be paid together in the first week of August. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work towards improving the scheme.”

As discussions surrounding the Federal Government’s proposed reforms of the NYSC continued, the claim generated concern among corps members, many of whom rely on the monthly allowance for their living expenses.

Verification:

FactCheckAfrica can confirm that the claim is false, as there is no official statement from NYSC supporting the claim on any of its  social media official handles.

FactCheckAfrica can also confirm that corps members received their June allowance in the first week of July 2026, rendering  the earlier claim untrue.

Speaking with FactCheckAfrica on July 9, 2026, a 2026 Batch A Stream II corps member confirmed that he received his June allowance in the first week of July.

He said, “Yes, I received my allowance a couple of days ago. Around the 7th of July.”

Findings also revealed that the postponement of the allowance till August was never contained in the reforms earlier approved by NYSC.

Although the June allowance was delayed till July, none of the recent official reports from NYSC confirmed that the reforms would lead to the postponement or merger of corps members’ June and July allowances to August.

Conclusion:

The claim that the National Youths Service Corps  would pay its serving corps members’ June and July allowance in August is false. As confirmed by FactCheckAfrica, some corps members have received their June allowance in the first week of July, rendering the earlier claim false.
