Full Text:

A message circulated on WhatsApp following the Osun State governorship election claiming that former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola lost his polling unit.

Given Oyinlola’s prominent role in Osun politics and his association with the opposition political camp, FactCheckAfrica checked the result recorded at his polling unit.

Verification:

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) shows that Oyinlola’s polling unit is Court Hall I, Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area.

At the polling unit, the Accord Party secured 125 votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 85 votes. A total of 220 ballots were recorded at the polling unit. Accord therefore defeated the APC by 40 votes at the polling unit.

The result is also consistent with reports by Premium Times and The Nation, which reported that Oyinlola lost his polling unit to Accord.

Conclusion

The claim that former Osun Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola lost his polling unit is true. INEC’s published result shows that Accord won the polling unit with 125 votes, while the APC received 85 votes.
